What is a leap? One tournament? One month? One year?
The largest in a single tournament I've seen (non provisional) is about 120.
The largest in a year almost 1000 (if you count ratings of 500 as real ratings, and not just kids screwing around).
Records set online are meaningless. You can manipulate your results by choosing rating ranges, playing series of games with few or single opponents, use multiple accounts, and of course even cheat with assistance from a friend or engine.
I once read that someone rated 1215 USCF made a huge leap of 500 elo and that it was a record. I don't remember if it was provisional or not but I assume not otherwise it wouldn't be that big a deal. Has anyone else ever made a leap in rating like this through correspondence?
