League Chess - How each time control scores points?

Sort:

In the new league chess (wood, stone, bronze, etc), I've been playing Bullet games, and scoring 3 league points for a win.

Another person around my rank (in the league) is only playing Rapid games, but in the last hours, their league points has been going up very fast.

I'm puzzled, as you can play more Bullet games in an hour (compared to Rapid games). Is it possible each game type (Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, Classical) rewards players with different amounts of point, such that slower games earn a player more league points?

If so, what's the scoring system for each game type?

Thanks!

Thanks! That's super helpful. Looks like Blitz is probably the fastest way to gain league points then...

Depends on how long your average game is and how good you are at the time controls. Blitz and Rapid (in particular 10|0) probably are pretty close in time spent to results.

But there are players doing well in all three pools.

well, no

it is bullet arena

because blitz arena is less points per hour

i mean, arena cares about wins only

so winning blitz games take longer than bullet

so less in arena

Blitz is best, unless you are a 3000 bullet player and can win every game or you are a Sandbagger and can win every game. The overall leaders are all mostly blitz players.

1 minute bullet takes 2 minutes to achieve 3 points. 3 minute blitz takes 6 minutes to achieve 9 points.
So at these time controls it’s the same.

If you look at the leaderboards, most of the players in the top 10 overall are playing mostly blitz and rapid. There was one that primarily plays bullet.

While I haven't done a systematic check, from previous looks at what people were playing, that seemed to be pretty common at the top.

Someone pointed out to me that playing 3|0 games at a 1|0 pace (trying to finish with no less than 2:00 on your clock) is a good strategy.

I calculated playing arena blitz like this would yield about 12% more trophies than regular arena bullet (the volume of games makes up for the deficit in arena trophies).

But using this logic, I suppose that playing 1|0 arena at a 30 second pace would be even better.

The only arguments for rapid are:

1) You can simul them (which some players at the top of the leaderboard have done)
2) You can use them to rest (although since no one has crossed 10k trophies, I doubt anyone is pushing themselves this hard yet).

I can reliably get 100 trophies per hour with arena bullet. So 10k trophies would be 100 hours in a week, which is "only" ~14 hours a day (and higher rated players can do even better)... this is "easy" since you'd even have time to take food breaks and sleep 8 hours a night.

The point is, when someone uses a good strategy (which wont involve much rapid lol) and pushes themselves, they'll easily get over 10k trophies. No one is doing this yet.

Thanks everyone. I feel like I'm getting better results with 3:2 Blitz (1:1 Bullet was my previous poison of choice).

What's the deal with the arenas? Do you get additional points for winning arena games?

Yes.

dfgh123

I had to start playing 3 min blitz arena because rapid seemed too slow this week, at least I hit a blitz pr.

chesskingshark123

it doesnt matter about playing bullet

chesskingshark123

it matters about playing blitz and rapid and becoming better at the game

If you want to become better at the game, then the league is no good.
10|0 is still too fast to become better at the game, it is even blitz per FIDE Laws of Chess.
To become better at the game 15|10 is best, but that is worst to score league points.
It would have been better to score 2*(x + y) points for a win in x|y time control and x + y for a draw, but that is not how it is now.
