I believe that you didn't mention your hardware, you didn't mention whether your PC has a GPU card, and you didn't mention which network you chose...

I have no idea what any of this means . . .

Lc0's tournament results don't lie. It's not as strong as Stockfish yet, but it seems to be getting there. I'm sure people out there with real world experience will be able to give better advice, but if you're running it with Intel HD graphics then your mediocre results are no surprise. I would guess Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or better for adequate results?

On my 1050 TI, the Lc0 I downloaded seems to be about the strength of the engines rated 2600-2700 on the CCRL list.  My CPU is an AMD FX-6300 Six-core.  This basically means that on an entry-level gaming GPU, a decent version of Leela plays at solid GM level.  Nowhere near the top engines, though.  You need a top-shelf GPU for that.

Currently running a 10-game 1/0 bullet match between Lc0 and Hermann 2.8..

Thanks for the info. I'm curious about Lc0, but figured my GPU wasn't up to the task. I'll wait until when (if) it's the top engine and then worry about the kind of hardware I'd have to buy to make it work. Until then Stockfish is a beast.

Hermann won the match, scoring +4 -0 =6.  Leela obtained winning positions  but couldn't convert for some reason.

Interesting. Are you using the highest rated network?

EscherehcsE

I just made a 10-game tourney (40 moves in 4 min) between lc0 and Hermann 2.6. (Hermann 2.8 is actually a tad bit weaker than ver 2.6.) My crappy, old PC has no GPU card at all. Leela scored 4 wins, 4 draws, and 2 losses. (I used the 11248 network.)

Edit - Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Leela is using a 5-man Syzygy tablebase. With Syzygy, Leela makes goofy endgame moves, usually thowing away extra pieces that it doesn't need. But I suspect that the tablebases help its endgame.

I don't know which network I downloaded, to be honest.  It was a month or two ago.  I followed instructions in some chess.com post for installing Lc0 and setting it up in Arena, it seemed to work, and I never gave it another thought.  How do I figure out which network I installed?

The original name of the downloaded network file was the SHA-256 hash of the file. (That is, an extremely long sequence of random alphanumeric characters.) If you happened to keep the first eight characters of the file name, you can have your browser search that eight-character string on this page:

https://lczero.org/networks/

If you didn't keep those first eight original alphanumeric characters in the file name (for example, you renamed the file to something like "network"), you'll have to find the SHA-256 hash of your network file, then take the first eight alphanumeric characters of the SHA-256 hash and search the above link.

I told you in other thread

"Leela is a high technology Neural Network. U need modern GPU and decent computer knowledge to use Leela properly.  U can ask help from me (I am a Leela tester/supporter ) or leela discord if you want.  $200 1060 GTX GPU is minimum requirement for Leela to play against 4 cores cpu top 3 engines like SF/H/K."

I think If i have to buy a Nvidia graphic card and my Intel aint no good for a decent play from leela then lc0 should be trashed out.. why buy a gaming PC just for an elo of 2600...even my chess.com mobile app plays at that level if not more... stockfish is still is 3000 even on a whacky pc..and u don't have to be a programmer to set it up..its that simple

That line of thinking is OK - Whatever floats your boat. Like you, I'm not about to spend big bucks just to get maximum performance from Leela. I'm happy just playing with a 2500+ engine that I know is going to get better over time through self-play. But if you only want to work with the strongest engines available, I'll respect that choice too.
