Licence to play

In France, one has to pay 150 euros for an annual licence to play in tournaments.

In this country, even to practice Fishing as a hobby, one has to pay and get a licence !

What about other countries ?

GeordiLaForge

It's 34$USD to join the US Chess Federation.  America, Land of the Fee.

karikal

It is very much cheaper in the USA ! I understand why chess is popular there.

karikal

It's true. People's demand for the american dollor is much greater than for euros !

Poor Europeans with the euro.

God Bless America! :-)

Aussie dollar is worth more than the US Smile....we go to the US for cheap holidays now.

karikal

Perhaps that's why many Asians want to go to Australia rather than the US !!

the_pawn_slayer

I was thinking of playing in  a local tournament in Australia but i would have to pay a playing fee of ~ 60 bucks plus I would have to join the queensland chess federation, which is another  50 or so bucks.Forget it!

karikal

It is strange that in countries where they do not particularly admire chess, the licence fee is too much as if to punish players !!

I pay 35 euro's per year to play chess at a club (the fee for our chess federation is taken from that and payed by the club), which includes having an instructor with a fide rating of 2100. Oh and a few times a year we get a physical chess magazine, not an online one.

Now you again :D.

P.S. The European economies are doing better in general (for instance, the Netherlands has a 4% unemployment rate while the USA has 9%. All countries together the unemployment is about equal. It is dragged down a bit by the new counties). Plus it isn't just the economy, there are many factors which decide the value of the dollar.

Because the easiest way to steal your wealth is by cheapening your money.

Puchiko

I think I outbest all of you, I pay 500 CZK (20 euro, 30 dollars) a year, which includes the federation fee as well as club fee.

Danny_BLT

USA being the leader of the civilized world tries to save the environment also for your children! For this reason we receive a monthly PDF, because we are trying to save trees! :D I could pay a couple of bucks more and receive the monthly paper one, but I also want to help the world!

Further you cannot compare a country like Holland with 6 million people, with US 300 million people. However I disagree that European economies are going well, and that the new countries are bringing it down, since Spain, Italy, Greece are not new countries, and they are bankrupt. Let's not speak of France which had to invade Lybia to steal the oil, otherwise they will be in the cold this winter :-)

USA USA USA :-)

Great that thing of having the trainer. By the way, apart the jokes, how much do you pay for a tournament? And could you give an example of the money prizes?

USA is the biggest crook of them all!!!

The real problem is that the euro is converted for a 30% more than the dollar, but I don't understand why, since I don't see the European economies as better than US. Further they didn't have to spend the same amount of money in armies to keep under control the world, so it is not justified to ask a 30% more for the euro.

I don't even know where to start on this one...

karikal

Bala, you are lucky there in India !

I'am trying to figure out if your serious or just joking :D.

Actually Greece and Spain are both fairly new to the EU. And both did not meet the requirements of the EU but were allowed in anyway.

You can compare the economies of countries with each other, the Dutch economy is among the top economies of the world. Oh and it's 17 million people by the way :D.

But yes jokes aside.
The tournaments I know are usually about 25 euro entree fee if it's a 6 six game tournament that being held in 3 days usually.
These were the prizes of the Delft championship:

 A-groupB-groupC-group
1 €1000,- €300,- €150,-
2 €500,- €150,- €75,-
3 €300,- €75,- €50,-
4 €200,- €50,- €25,-
5 €100,- €25,- €20,-
