You don't need to give camera permission unless you want to use the feature to take a picture to rate. You can load images from your gallery without that permission.

The images are also just used locally, not loaded on the site servers, and never leave your device unless you share them yourself.

The meta data related to the image content seems like it is accessed and stored on chess.com which is over reach. That’s exactly why we should be more conscious, not less. The fact that we already give so much away doesn’t mean we should be okay with handing over more without understanding it. Normalizing this stuff is how privacy standards slowly erode.
