Limit on daily number of games

Hi guys,

As I experienced this 'issue' I was thinking of opening this discussion and was wondering what you think about it as was the suggestion from chess.com support

Especially in corona times I find it often difficult to play in moderation on this site. That is, sometimes I find myself mindlessly playing for a couple of hours (up to 5) on this site. Which I think leads to nothing wink.png. Well you could say, self-discipline and limit yourself to a handful games a day but I was thinking:

Would it be nice to include a voluntary limit on the number of games you can daily play. For example you can set the limit on 5 and confirm with your password oslt.

I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this and I you'd think this feature would be a valuable add-on?

I believe this feature already exists on Chess.com.  Although I myself have not experimented with this, the option exists under https://www.chess.com/settings/daily

Max # of games prevents anyone from sending you a challenge if you are at or above that number. It doesn't stop you from creating challenging people.

But the OP seems to be talking about a setting that can be used to limit the number of games played per day, not daily games. Which isn't something I could see the site adding as an option.

Yes that is correct, I was talking about a daily limit for the amount of challenges you can sent. And curious if more people would be interested in such feature?

(As I understood from the support of chess.com that this feature is indeed not included yet as an option) wink.png

Yes, only I have no idea how to upvote this thread so that more people can speak in favor of this 'moderation' option.

I have the same issue @vanEeden. This is a great suggestion and I wish Chess.com would add the functionality.

Hi @vaneden, as an alternative option, I used the app timer feature which restricts the app time. I set it to 1 hr limit everyday. Seems to workout fine for me 😀

Hi, I have experienced the same issue of playing too much games (and losing most of them). So, I made a simple browser extension to solve that problem. It is available for Firefox (this link), but I can make it accessible for Google Chrome. I would be glad for any kind of feedback when you try it. If you are interested, the source code of the extension is available here.

I totally agree with vanEeden. I would really really appreciate this kind of function maybe cutomizable. For example I would like to limit the daily games based on lost games.

I am playing a member who has 90+ daily games going at one time. This seems excessive and he is playing much more slowly than other opponents. Should there be a limit for the benefit of both parties?

hi i have found an interesting chrome extension, checkout : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/freedom-website-blocker-f/abdkjmofmjelgafcdffaimhgdgpagmop

review is average, can give a try.

Ok_withthat

just set timer for how long you will play. i think its better idea then to just limit games
