Now, most of my chess games are over in about 20-70 moves. But how long could they go on for? This is automatically claiming any threefold repetition, of course. Anyone know?
The longest tournament game is Nikolic - Arsovic 269 moves. It was a drawn rook and bishop vs rook game. Apparently in place at the time was a rule allowing 100 moves without a capture rather than 50 to be played in this ending before a draw could be claimed.
