Looking for a way to play chess with a friend

Hello. Me and my friend want to play chess online, but we dont want to have to be online at the same time for a while because of the difficulty with conflicting schedules. What we want to be able to do is to make a move then have the chess board wait until my friend gets online, meaning he can then make a move that will stay until I get back online, without one of us having to be there? Is there any way to do this? I know game pidgeon allows you to do this through IOS messages, but my friend is unable to message due to not having a cell phone plan for it. Basically, I want something like game pidgeon where you can send a move and wait but something that just exists in an app and does not need imessage.

Thank you so much for your help.

Did you just discover internet? Anyway. I think what you want is what is called “correspondence chess” on chess.com. Better options are available if you open chess.com in your browser whether on the PC or on the phone. Then go to setup custom game. Alternatively if you and your friend added each other as “friends” then go to their name and then select “send challenge” where you select correspondence and select how many days each side has to make a move.

Yes, there are several online platforms and mobile apps that allow you to play asynchronous chess with your friend. Here are a few options:

Chess.com: Chess.com offers the ability to play correspondence chess, which is perfect for playing with friends when you have different schedules. You can create an account, invite your friend, and take turns making moves. The game progresses at your own pace, and you can receive notifications when it's your turn to play.
: Similar to Chess.com, also provides a correspondence chess feature. You can create a game, share the link with your friend, and take turns making moves whenever you have time. Lichess also offers notifications to keep you updated about the game's progress.
Chess with Friends: Chess with Friends is a mobile app available for both iOS and Android devices. It allows you to play asynchronous chess with your friends. You can create games, send invites, and play at your convenience. The app notifies you when it's your turn to make a move.
These platforms and apps offer the flexibility you're looking for, allowing you and your friend to play chess at your own pace without the need for both players to be online simultaneously. Simply choose the one that suits your preferences and start enjoying your asynchronous chess games.
