Losing/Winning streaks

I always seem to either have a long winning streak or a long losing streak. Anyone else get this problem?

Its not a problem if you have reached your level you will win and lose and hence maintain your correct grading. I have reached my level  and win and lose up and down like a see-saw.

Don't misinterpret me you may be able to improve if you take the appropriate steps, change your style, try some of the helpful suggestions on this site.

Of course I don't see my short winning streaks as a problem, but I suppose I have to take the bad with the good.  There have been a number of occasions where I'm in a bunch of games and I think to myself, I'm not going to win any of these.  Then again there are times when I know I'm going to pull off a win in most of my games. After I reached my highest rating (hopefully) so far - 1503 - I immediately went into a 100+ point slide which I wrote about in a forum topic.  I will say that my losing streaks seem to be largely a product of not paying attention which, in turn, is often caused by being in too many games for my personality/abililty, whatever.

My live rating fluctuates about +-80 points and streaks are very common. Some of it is just statistical inevitablility. Winning and losing streaks with gambling happen all the time. With chess some of it is psychological so if I lose a few games in a row I need to stop playing and regroup.

I have only long losing streaks with a win here and there. Especially at blitz.

Yes interesting comments. If you look at your statistics, which are very well set out on this site you can see what happens. You climb and climb until you start to reach your ability level the graph shows it very well. If you were to start off at say 2300 you would simply lose and lose and fall and fall to roughly the same level.

The only way to beat your statistics is to improve, this may be possible, but definitely not for everyone, otherwise we would all be masters of the game.

Yep, it's a psychological thing

It's an algorithm designed to get you hooked. It assigns you weak opponents for some time and then challenging opponents. Just know that it can also create fake users (artificial players) to knock you down if you win too many. No one can beat the computer ultimately, so have fun and forget the score.

I’m more of like: Lose 100 points in a day, regain everything in a few days.

On a good day you gain too much rating.
On a bad day you lose too much rating.
