Lost almost 200 rating points in a few days

I started playing chess last year in April. I have went from 500 elo to 1900 in approximately 1 year. I have had ups and downs but this is the worst I have had. Tbh I have not studied much chess for the past few months and I actually started grinding reading my chess book, doing puzzles, analysis, etc. for around a month. But for some reason rather than my elo increasing, it went down from 1900 to 1730 in the span of a few days.

This is extremely frustrating. I am missing basic threats and tactics, blundering my pieces in one move, etc. I took a break in May and barely played a few matches that month. Now I keep constantly losing to player and at this rate I feel like I'm going to lose even more elo. It's not like I am going through a "tilt" cuz it's been going on for a few weeks now.

CAN SOMEONE PLS tell me why this is happening and what should I do?

Rating tends to vary by 200 or so points over time once you near/hit your peak rating long term. You might get back to where you were again relatively soon.
quierom

Thanks for letting me know, but does that mean I'm not rlly 1900 elo strength?

blueemu

I once lost 400 rating points in under a minute.

If your rating has hit both high points and low points, why would you assume that the highest peak is the true measure of your strength? Isn't it far more likely to be somewhere BETWEEN the upper and lower marks?

How does that change the fact you're overrated ?
And i'm 1250 thank you.

It happens I had that happen a couple weeks ago to me next minute I'm hitting a peak then -200 elo

You will recover eventually after a break from tilt so I wouldn't worry about too much I heard touching grass helps

lmao I had that when I first started playing chess i went from 1200-2000 but the 1700-1900 is incredably difficult for whatever reason like if you can break that it's pretty easy usually to stay at 2000 plus

My only tip is learn what positional chessis /get better at it and take free pieces lol (sry if thats basic but that's how I broke 1800)

why would you think i'm overrated?

You mentioned starting to grind puzzles, reading and analysis. Sometimes, intense study sessions without adequate rest can lead to mental fatigue.

Alright, you're tilted. Tilted badly. I recommend take at least a week off of chess and come back slowly into the routine of things. Don't listen to the people saying you're overrated, you probably aren't. I think you're just overworking yourself

I thought tilt caused you to be underrated not overrated lol

These people saying they are over rated probably havnt gotten tilt before

For tilt, take some time away from the game to remind yourself that it's only a game ... a day, a week ... whatever feels right for. When you come back, play when you are well rested, in a positive mood, a free from distractions. That's what works for me, at any rate.

If you didn't stay around 1900 for very long, that rating may have been the high end of the variability of your rating range. FWIW, my own peak rating is about 200 points above my usual rating.

That's good losing 200 points like losing 20 pounds of fat u become smarter healthier and better player by losing excess baggage
