Carlsen would tell you it's Kasparov. And it makes sense: He achieved a level of dominance in the chess community even greater than Magnus (so far) with very little (if any) assistance from the Internet. He's also the one who helped Magnus achieve true stardom, getting him to the top spot with ease.

He may be semi-retired now, but he's clearly still got it, if his current rating is any indication. I imagine that despite his age, a game between the two would be a sight to behold.

He also briefly trained Hikaru, which says a lot. Even the GOATs of today have nothing but respect for him.
