Hello Fellas,

Wouldn't it be nice if we all can play chess here and make some money!

chessmaster102

gamble then the winner gets the money thru paypal.

@Chessmaster102; well i think chess.com can do it. all it requires is the plat form. players can wager from minimum of $1 to $50 and chess.com will do the odds comparison.

Maybe one can pay to play higher rated players for instruction.. But gambling in itself is a zero amount game..

And invite people to cheat?  No thanks.

alain978

you're right N2UHC. Where the money is the cheaters are!...

So how does online poker turn out in regards to cheating?

PsYcHo_ChEsS

I think poker is different, it's essentially a game of chance. Chess is entirely a game of skill.

The only way you can cheat in poker is to somehow control what players get what cards, and if it's being done randomly via the software running on the site, then only very skilled hackers could do this. Even then it would be very difficult if it's being monitored.

With a chess site like this one, any person can cheat via use of an engine. There are methods to detect that also, but I would guess it's not foolproof.

As far as the original thread, I don't see how money could exchange hands unless when a game was complete, the winner automatically has funds deposited into their PayPal from the loser's account. Otherwise losers would simply never pay.

Actually, online gambling is a negative sum game for all players except the house, due to the rake/holdback.

There have been some big scandals.  The sites seem to do a decent amount of policing.   Fortunately most cheaters are terrible players.

asmund_hammerstad

In itself gambling is a zero amount game so of course any costs will make it negative for the players yes.

There are other ways to cheat in online poker.  The most common is two cheaters sit at the same table and exchange information about their hole cards. Also they can whip saw you with betting when one of them has a good hand.  A player with a strong hand can check, knowing that his partner will bet and allow him to check raise.  In tournament games, an agreed check-down when somebody is all-in is common and a lot of people who suggest a check-down don't realise that they are cheating.

Good points blake, didn't even consider those.

I think there are programs that play better than people, and are used online.

Friends, my suggestion to us all is this:

in life we all struggle to gain money, to think about profits, gains, losses.

At least let's have a hobby that we love just to improve and have fun.

Let's leave the money to the pros and the teachers, to people who write books that amuse us.

you bet a amount of cubits and if you win you get more, you lose, you lose the cubits
