I'm an INTP.
I've seen topics like this one on chess.com before. From what I understand, my type is rare, but it seems to be a very common type amongst chess players.

I'm an even split between INTP and INFP. Myers-Briggs discounts the degree to which you fall on one side or another and instead places all emphasis on which side you fall on, which is one part of why the whole system is flawed.
One anecdote doesn't make an argument, but I see strong indicators of both INFP and INTP's described characteristics in my play.
I'm an INFJ. I suppose that ST types would naturally be good at chess and other logic-based puzzles when compared to other types. What I found, however, is that personality types tend to influence playing style. For example, when I'm playing in a position where I have the initiative, I often use intuition instead of pure calculation to break the King open. In order to determine if the position I will reach in a line is a good one, I will think to myself, 'Do my pieces feel right in this position?'
The ST chess players that I know tend to use proven, solid openings such as KID and play a reserved style much like Botvinnik.
I get INTP with a strong P, almost 50-50 on feeling vs thinking (used to get INFP), introversion and intuition quite strong but not as strong as Perceiving. Of course, it's pretty much just meaningless pseudo-science, but it's fun nonetheless (well, it is not meaningless per se - someone's type tells you a tiny bit about a person, or at least makes it more likely that they have certain traits. But the actual notion that personality is divided in this fashion is rather...suspicious.)
Yeah, some websites make it sound like the supreme personality test, but it's not. There have been lots of proposed personality types and ways to test for them over the years (from the silly to the more seroius).

And no matter the test, as I recall, as you get older you're supposed to be more of a middle ground anyway.

Well of course external things change as maturity increases. The internal workings, however, don't.
"Internal workings" is pretty vague. People do change though, it's not only a mask they put on when they're around others or to cope with situations.

As in basic personality traits such as introverted/extroverted for example.
Certainly you don't go from being very introverted to very extroverted.
But that's one where people tend towards the center as they get older. I don't mean 15 to 20, more like 20 to 40.

I think you're confusing external actions with internal ones. Being introverted or extroverted actually has nothing directly to do with how much one socializes, rather, it has to do with where one gets his energy from to recharge. Extroverts get it from being around people whereas introverts get it from being alone. What you're describing is introverts becoming less socially awkward as they get older, which is not the same thing as becoming less introverted. Do you see the difference?
No, I mean internally. Like social situations / being alone doesn't drain you as much internally. Not that you learn to tolerate it.
INTP/INTJ
What people do with the test results is ridiculous, like Astrology...but there's no doubt the test itself as designed and the questions asked do accurately divine certain traits. Just look at this thread...only 3-5% of people are INTPs but it is rampant among chess players who also post in forums ;)...
hey if any of you guys know about mbti please give your type,im just interested to see all the types who are chess players thanks?
