Men are better in chess than women

Will women ever catch up or play even to men in general? Why are women so behind? What do you think women should do to improve? 

A lot of it is the culture.  I know some women players who are a lot stronger than I am.  The Polgar sisters got where they are by never playing in all-women events. 

Would the fact that more men/boys plays the game be a factor too. ?

LOL! True Story! They just can't concentrate on the game. They got loads of household work too!

But I think the case of young girls is different. Take for example, the Polgar sisters. They were exceptions. I think the Polgars, Hou Yifan are the only bright spots in women's chess. Everything else is negligible. No women is above 2700 (Elite level). Only Judit Polgar crossed 2700 (2735 peak rating I think). Only one woman in top 100 (Hou Yifan). Nobody else above 2600. I really don't know why no women is above 2700 and basically don't know the answer to "Why women are bad at chess?". Maybe women are wired differently. They just suck at chess, as simple as that.

This is a horrible stereotype.  It's not that women are behind.  It's that far fewer women have an interest in chess.  A woman's brain is one large connected piece.  A man's is two separate parts.  This is part of the reason that women tend to score better statistically in standardized tests at school than men.  So in many ways, women are actually far stronger than men mentally.  But that doesn't change the fact that popularity of the game is very low for women as it simply is not an area of interest for more than a hand-full of women comparatively speaking to men.

But to stereotype that women need to "catch up" to men is horrendous and idiotic and just goes to show how stupid you really are.  I guaranty you that the Polgar Sisters, or Kostineuk, or Krush, or the two sisters featured in Popov's "Chess Lessons", or many others would absolutely kick your wide rear end that is larger than the broad side of a barn!  They would kick mine too!

There are plenty of men out there that are really good at ballet.  Why do morons stereotype and make fun of boys or men that take up ballet?  Because they are just as stupid as you are and don't realize that it just doesn't interest nearly as many men as it does women.  That doesn't make women better!  Same thing goes for men and chess!

Let's us just play chess and have fun.  I can win sometimes and lose sometimes.  My experience is that no matter how fast you drive, there is always someone in front of you....maybe a guy, maybe a gal.   Let go....

  Notice how the more female dominated the major, the lower the average IQ.  Even though men and women have a similar average IQ, men are more heavily represented at the lower and higher ends of the spectrum.  That's why men numerically dominate all the high IQ fields of study in school while women are more likely to get distracted by emotionally charged tangents like interpersonal relationships.  Think about it, when you lock yourself away from the rest of the world and focus on a task with the mindset that you are the only person in the world and that task is the only thing in the world that matters, you tend to be more productive.  Focusing on actual face to face social interactions is actually counter-productive in many cases even with people we like and respect.  Obviously there are exceptions to everything I have stated.  That should go without saying, but an exception does not disprove the rule.

  Also, men tend to be more creative and driven.  Men have created most of the technology in the world.  Most of the great inventors in the world have been maniacally driven introverts intent on bringing their creative ideas to life at any cost.  Many people actually scoff at the "military industrial complex".  The military industrial complex is the crowning achievement of humanity.  It produces everything.  It defends everything.

Does IQ have a strong correlation to chess rating? Even so I would guess women with exceptional IQ's wouldn't want to spend their time playing chess.

Men and women are equally talented, but the women are outnumbered. I have at least played three women in otb-tournaments this year that has GM-talent. Lykke Merlot Helliesen (7 years old), Amelia Nordquelle (ca10) and Livia Lindstad (ca 10), but the big question is if they  will continue hard training and competing for a decade and more. I hope so. A lot of the talents retires before they are twenty, and when the number of talents are less (because fewer women compete in chess), there may not be enough of them left.
