2000 -2400 ... depending on how much time per move, it is not a real strong program nor is it the best processor either.
Mephisto Saitek Explorer Pro Chess Computer

Is there a tabletop standalone chess computer you would recommend that is in a reasonable price range? They have the Millennium ChessGenius series out that are strong. Thanks.

Unless you are already a strong master, ANY of the table-top models will play in the 2000+ range easily and would be worth the investment, especially - if you are like me - you like to practice/analyze with an actual/real chess set in front of you.
Many/most are capable at playing at 2200+ strength, however, they can start taking a VERY long time to respond at the higher levels ...
I have - in the past - owned dozens of those units ... ... ...

I started with the Fidelity Chess Challenger, worked my way up to Mephisto ... its probably one of the reasons ... constantly practicing against a machine ... that I became a master. Back in the 1980's, when I was stationed at Minot AFB, there was no Internet or PC's back then, and strong competition was at least 4-6 hours drive. So my tabletop machine was my constant buddy, I actually wore out 2-3 units while stationed there.
Does anyone who has owned and used a Mephisto Saitek Explorer Pro give me their thoughts on its overall playing strength and their experience with using its features. Every now and then they sell on EBay. How does it compare to Saitek's Master Chess Computer and even the Saitek Expert Travel Chess Computer (est ELO 2000). I am about a 1300 player and was wondering how noticeable the playing strength is as compared to if I am playing strong engines on a Desktop PC. Thank you.
