I would be happy to debunk the myth that 99% of players above some level are cheaters.
I really don't think many people cheat, like at all.
If your opponent is cheating then it just means you are playing something that is playing very accurate moves, this is a good form of training.
You improve your game, ok the number next to your name goes down a litle bit, not a huge deal, your opponent gains nothing and hopefully gets caught later on
Tartakower explained long ago why you suspect your opponent start cheating at the end of the game:
"A chess game is divided into three stages: the first, when you hope you have the advantage, the second when you believe you have an advantage, and the third... when you know you're going to lose!"

I am convinced I play cheaters in every game I play. Since I play people 1400-1500 live chess, it must be admitted that they have very poor engines.

My oppponent saw a mate in two that I did not see. He must be cheating !

Also if he ever, even once, gets the same move as the chess engine then he is a confirmed cheater.

Here's a game to help you (OTB):
Both white and black (especially black) played sub-optimal non-computer moves many times, and this game was very human. This game should also give comfort to those who feel bad about blundering: there's no shame in it if it happens to the very elite, if it can happen to them it can damn well happen to us.

It isn't about losing a few rating points that will easily be recouped through more play, it's about the principle of the matter. If everyone in chess cheated then it would devalue the game as a whole and render playing meaningless. It's the same reason why cheating on a test is wrong: if everyone cheated then the test would be rendered meaningless and lose its value. If everyone doing a certain thing would be wrong then it's wrong if one person does it.
