Hi chess peops, I want to check which piece in chess is the most useless! Of course, King is not consider one of them because without the king, you lose! (HAHA . . . ) So, please post your opinion on the piece you dislike the most or the piece that you think is most useless.

I think Rook the most useless piece in chess, in the start of the game, it can't even move(Can only move after the first move or will stay at that corner for half of the game)! All the work is done by other pieces. Rook is only good for checking. . . .  Most of my game, I don't even use it. . . . (1 of them always stay at the corner until most of my pieces are gone) That might be my weakness.

Right, that makes sense LOL! Thtas why people always exchange pieces to decrease your opponent's defence!

EagleHeart

A Bishop locked in behind its own pawns can be quite useless.

Right, and thats what I always do to my opponents! LOL

Keep forcing their bishop away then BOOM, it is stuck!

mikimouse

There is no piece in chess that is useless, they all work together in harmony to form an art, and if you removed one of them then you sacrifice the performance of the rest. Even the King can be a powerful warrior in the endgame.

stanhope13

mikimouse has a point.

MikiMouse does have a point, but, some people can win a game without the help of Rook! Some times, the pieces are blocking the way, it makes it hard to come up with a plan to get rid of them. . . .

Oh well, yep, he does have a point.....

This bishop is pretty useless:

It is true that some people can win a game with out the help of a rook, a bishop, or even a queen for that matter. But, if you just took a piece off of the chessboard never to be put back you would lose much of the appeal of chess, strategically using all of the pieces together.

Any piece can be useless in a given position.

You should work on developing your rooks early in the game. That way you will be using all of your pieces together and that will make you an altogether better chess player.

Of course, but that is a particularly useless bishop.  In the interest of fairness, here is a particularly useless knight:

KingPan: this position of the pawns gets me so annoyed 70% of the time im playing i get into trouble.

GeneralMiller

Every piece has a purpose. Even if a particular game leaves a piece out, it does not make that piece useless.

KingPan

The most useful piece for me is the knight (remember the queen is the most powerful peice, not the best for openings or early on the game), the knight who always jumps in to attack and jumps into a safe position if under threat. Knights are very useful for dual attacks and early checkmates.

The most useless peice for me is the bishop, who can get into trouble easy early on the game however at end games it is quite useful for cornering the king.

i second that

staggerlee

Here are some really useless bishops.

drakesdman

at the start of a game a rook won't do anything however endgame it is extremely valuabe

knights arre great for the first few moves then as the game goes on lose there value

a bishop can be use anywere but can easily be avoided altogether

a queen is obviosly very valuable

pawns are foot soldiers that can become heros

overall i think bishops are the most useless
