My Critique on Youtuber Hanging Pawns

He was playing 3rd league a year or 2 years ago if I remember right, so I would guess he is among the lowest rated players in the 1st league. In any case playing 1st league is an improvement.

It would be nice if he could get over 2 000 in the near future.

Well, I wouldn't go that far

If you make instructional videos and can't win a single game against a certain elo then... you're basically backyard professor.

I mean… almost all of his opponents were titled players.

What do you mean?

You mean the thing I pointed out in the post right before the one you quoted?

I read something wrong, sorry.

Yet another loss today. 0.0/5 now. Bummer. Three rounds to go. Hopefuly he'll win a game soon.

EDIT: actually I'm not sure if there are 9 rounds or less.

Glad you're not here just to bash on him, and giving him credit when it's due happy.png

This topic wasn't to bash him either, I was giving my honest opinion.

Another round, another loss. It's a shame, but life goes on. Btw, does anyone know what is going on with the "mozart of Chessable" Mr. Elijah Logozar. He was a promising young player, but his fide rating has dropped significantly lately. Last year he was 2030, now he's 1885. Only last month, he played 13 games, and lost like 70 points.

I can't believe people are getting all hot and bothered over a few mistakes in a video. Gotham Chess has been known to say wrong things, too.  Stefan is just trying to help people learn. I've watched a lot of his videos and didn't get the impression that he thought he knew everything.

Just read the first page and wow... so negative and unjustified. Some of it brutal nitpicking. I've watched numerous higher rated you tubers and they make mistakes A LOT, as well as offer opinions that are questionable. Jeez, Levy says so many things that are wrong almost purposefully to get a rise out of you. He is also often so dogmatic you know he is goofing on you. SO MANY tubers bash lines and give example games that ignore obvious moves that refute their point. Hanging Pawns is a surprisingly good channel IMO. For almost every opening he gives a basic primer on theory, and compares strengths and weaknesses among the variations and between other openings. I would argue it is the BEST channel for basics of most openings, especially for players < 2000.
