My culture fair IQ is 124 -->How much can I achieve in chess

So chess already attracts the smartest people. I just did a Mensa test and paid 7 euros and got an IQ score of 124.(94.5th percentile)

I submitted the test ahead of time.

Don't judge me on my chess.com rating. I don't often play here. My Playchess rating is 1700+ and ICC rating is 1600+.

If I invest proper time would you say I could be a 1900 rated player? since that is my goal. I know 2000 is a bit out of reach.

Kasparov took an IQ test and got 135.

(Some websites like to guess the IQ of celebrities, and guessed wrong on Kasparov, and probably everyone else, so just ignore websites like that)

So you're doing fine. Gaining skill in chess is about studying often, and playing in tournaments often where you meet players who can kick your butt. It's not about IQ.

I actually did this test to figure out if I am mentally deficient(because I am having some trouble with a software project at work)

Now you know you're very smart happy.png

We're off on the wrong foot. I really like chess.

Don't put to much stock into IQ, I broke 2100 on a relatively normal IQ.  If your willing to work hard and put the time in maybe you will break 2000.  I know people with IQ's in the 140-150 range that never broke 2000.

IQ is bullshit. No ones know how far you can get, although the younger you are, the more likely you are to achieve a high chess skill, but anyways you'll have to practice.

Rick Rosner is supposed to have an incredibly high IQ, and the best he could was create the show CHiPs.

You just might be looking at the wrong way, or starting at a confusing spot. Also agree that IQ tests can be kind of variable and should be taken with a grain of salt. Also for a lot of software projects, it's likely that your problem has been solved before (unless you're at the forefront of some research field). So use the internet to your advantage.

I’m more concerned that you paid 7 euros to take the test...

IQ is just statistics.

I think 130 is something like 1 out of 100... I'm too lazy to google it, but someone could find this in 10 seconds pretty easily.

In other words "anyone who are good . . ." is silly of you to say... unless you define "good" as "1 in 100"

Real IQ tests aren't free. You take them in person at a testing facility (not online)

First and foremost it takes hard work and dedication to reach any goal and to be better than the average in almost anything. For chess I guess that the IQ is more or less as important as you BMI for reaching a high rating.

I actually knew(online) someone who had an IQ of 165 and was atrocious at chess. Now that's puzzling.

Bobby Fischer had an IQ of 187.

You cannot just throw out a number without knowing the background of it. His IQ was in the range 180-187 at the 1958 Stanford-Binet test which is equivalent to the range 148-155 for todays Stanford-Binet test.
