The new FIDE ratings have just come out and my rating has gone up by around 200 points even though i didnt play any games and my last tournament i went down.

I was reading and apparently there is a new FIDE rating system effective from today is that why or is it some glitch?

If you didn't play for very long time, your rating will reset like when you first time playing chess games.

No i play alot of FIDE games it just suddenly went up by around 200 points i did some reading and FIDE has changed its rating system buffing players rating by (0.40) x (2000 - yourrating)

The rating system changed so that 1400 is now the lowest performance that will provide published ratings and as part of that, there were rating increases and changes to the initial rating formula.

1. A one-off change to Standard Ratings for rated players: For players with a standard rating lower than 2000 points, an increase will be applied following the formula (0.40) x (2000 – Rating). Players with a standard rating of 2000 or more will retain their current rating.

2. Changes in the rating floor: An increase in the rating floor from 1000 to 1400.

I thought that must be it im guessing you wont go up and down as much in points when you win or lose meaning that players rated 100 points above you will be much better than you more so.

FIDE has made multiple changes over the years. It used to be that if you didn't reach a 2000 performance, you didn't get a rating at all. I don't recall what the first decrease was but know that later it went down to 1000.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out and whether those that received boosted ratings end up dropping back towards where they were initially in a year or two.

Yesterday was fide changed the ratings, you got a rating increase based on your rating if you were below 2000. Your rating after the increase would be: Current rating+((2000-your fide rating)x0,4)

Same happened with me. I noticed it yesterday. It went from 1428 to 1657 for no reason. I haven't played at a rated tournament in the last month.

I think more likely scenario is these boosted ratings will hold up and higher ratings will inflate, because they will get more points for beating same strength players (unless that changes as well)

If your rating was below 1400, you won't have a rating.

MasterWhiteQueen

No , my rating was 1443
