well I am about to be 900 and I can say this,I fought from 300 elo to get here in the span of about 3 months it's hard man, overall I am still a noob,I get crushed easily but I have some games where I just stomp a 1,000,it just depends how you think.

It really doesn't matter how many years you've played.  I've been a casual player for 50 years.  Never studied chess books, etc. - just play a game now and then with friends and family.  My rating here is <700.  It's not the number of years - It's how much time and effort you put into it; i.e., is it a serious hobby to you? Obviously not to me, but I still enjoy a game against a similar player.

You're responding to a thread that was created five years ago.

This reminds me of when I was signing up and I didn't know what "intermediate" meant and i selected it and now I am rated 1200 even thought i should be rated around 850

When I made my account I confidently thought I was intermediate…little did I know I was 680 lol

I got 1000 after playing chess for 1 week, lowkey feel bad for you,tho your still probably a very hard player to checkmate, AND your probably wayyyy above 700

When I choose the computer as opponent I easily reach 1200, have even defeated  2000-bots on several occasions. But in live chess (10 minutes), i struggle hard to reach 800-level.  Am I alone?

The idea of a "beginner" is relative to who you're asking. For example, I would label you as a beginner, but a 1800 player would say I'm a beginner. Some GMs even go as far as saying

amazing comment

Well,, In chess.com,players having rating of 100-450 are generally beginners,,,, Because they miss fork, and ignores threat,, miss mate in 1 or 2...And some captures,, and easily looses in Winning position if u set some traps for them,, they will eventually fall for it...Now comes players who fights till the very end 500-850.. and can give a good competition for players rating 900-1000...Note: players from 600 or 700 are not beginners..They have lack of experience, yeah,,, But lol they know how the knight moves and yes They lack tactical skills,, .Now players of 900-1000.. including me Are on the phase of learning the tactics and positional games,,, and after 1000...Players are well accustomed with both tactics and positional understanding...Now the difference that sets in here are the planning and visualization of each and every moves..That counts... That's why a player or 1490 can easily beat 1011 because the former one has good planning and visualization,,of the game..But that doesn't means 1011 rated player is a beginner or has no knowledge...Thank you
