I don't waste my time on blitz chess. When I first joined the site I mistakenly entered a blitz game not understanding that it was blitz. I am sure there are those that will tell you it has some value, but I can not see any. Maybe it has some quick entertainment valve, but as far as improving your game overall, I don't think so. My advise is don't waste your time on it.
Need advice on 3 min Blitz

First off I know this sounds idiotic, I am sure. When playing 3 min Blitz I realize there is not a lot of time to evaluate every move. But is it ever a good strategy to make a move without giving the board position a decent look? I am talking about when your opponent has a lot more time on his/her clock? I am a terrible blitz player that usually only wins because my opponent ran out of time. I'm still a beginner. I would really appreciate any advice. I do play Daily Chess and I do study the game, but I also enjoy 3/0 blitz and would like to improve. Thank you.
As you improve in long chess and start to understand your moves and positions better, as well as build up your pattern bank, you'll start to make more natural, intuitive moves that make sense in blitz.

yes it does
prove it then with your otb fide rating ... I will be watching your fide otb rating and shall see if all this fast chess is improving your play or not ...

ok sure, I will play in the nationals during the summer.
bb gum, he obviously didn't analyze the blitz games. that is a must.

Blitz is the way to go, Keep going and you will reach 2000 level in no time
I know one guy who has played over 50,000 blitz games (!) He is far below a 2000 rating.
I have played well over 100,000 blitz/bullet games since 1996 and I can tell you it has NOT improved my standard rating even a little . Talk to any titled player and ask them how much they think blitz/bullet helped them become titled or to improve their slow chess ....

thats because you didn't analyze it. and thats obviously a must if you want to improve. Hahaha. Waste of time on your part

i don't have no coach. and people forget that as long as you spend enough time on something, it will work out.

Serious players don't analyze blitz/bullet games for obvious reasons . Their level/quality is too low compared to slower time controls where you have time to actually think about your moves . Serious players analyze their serious/slow games and spend the most time on their losses .

I've played over 100,000 blitz and bullet since 1998. My OTB rating climbed from low 1400s to high 1900s, and then dropped back into the 1800s.
This speed chess is probably why my OTB is below 2100.
