Correction, these AI bots
They are allusions to various AIs, fictional and real.
Chippy is an allusion to clippy, a "digital assistant" in an earlier version of Microsoft Windows, which most users found useless and annoying.
PAL 9000 is an allusion to HAL 9000, the AI computer system in the movie "2001 - A Space Odyssey".
I'm pretty sure SkyWeb is an AI in the Terminator movies.
Agent Chess is an allusion to Agent Smith in the Matrix movies.
No clue about ChessGPT, though "potato" is sometimes used to refer to very slow computers. Maybe it comes from a movie I haven't seen.

I wanted to see how clever PAL 9000 was in a game where I allowed it to play white. At one point in the game, I sac'ed a bishop to take out the King's bishop pawn. PAL could not defend his king too well when it was out in the open. I doubt this tactic would have worked with the second highest bot, or the top bot.

Chess.com has just introduced these new bots today as I am typing this article.

Chess.com has had some mystery behind the mittens bot.
Im not here to discuss that. There is a lot more forum pages on the mittens situation.
Mittens was rated elo 1 but recently and accidentally revealed as about 3500
People have really hated her for awhile...

However today she has disappeared with all of the other precious kitties.
M3GAN although wasn't a cat but still is gone anyway.
Then came the AI bots and they have featured these so far:
