New Android app

Occassionally my connection during a game drops while using my pc desktop.  When this happens I pick up my phone and click play and luckily I can continue my active game using the phone.  The new app doesn't seem to be able to do this so I watch frustratingly as my pc game times out and I now have to abandon a game on my phone that I didn't mean to start as I just hoped it would continue the active game.

I also appreciated the old app's self analysis mode without activating the computer's potential move scenarios.

Missing the old app...

This is the kind of thing you are supposed to report to support@chess.com and on the beta forum.

I didn't see a link for app discussions.

I didn't think that the beta version of the Android app had been rolled out to the general membership.

The new Android app has Puzzle Rush. Does your new app have that?

Of course, clubs are not directly in the apps.

It seems that there is puzzle rush. I'm more interested in general tactics at my own pace. Just wish I could revert to the previous version even though this update has a lot of features.

Can anybody help? I had a chess.com app on android phone Meizu. Months ago it stopped working and that this version is not supported any more. I tried to download a version from app store but the same old unsupported version keeps getting downloaded. Did anyone have this problem? Is there a new android version? How can i get it?

It's possible your phone doesn't support the newest version of the app. What version of Android are you on?

That version is no longer supported by Android.

One thing you might consider is installing an alternate operating system on your phone.

As the article says, there are no guarantees but there is open source software like LineageOS which may allow you to breathe life into your old phone.

(I am not chess.com staff. I have never done it myself. I don't know if an updated OS will run the current chess.com app or the old one.)

Thank you, i guess i'll have to look around and see what i can do...

well, it turned out my OS was fine and up to date. Turns out chess.com did not upload the most recent version of the app to the App Store, which my Meizu uses, or it seems that way. I downloaded the recent version from some third party web site, since google play is not on my phone and was tricky to install.

I lucked out then.  My phone is using 6.0.1 and is running the latest chess.com app.

If you feel adventurous there are ways to update to a newer android but involves unlocking your phone with software you would have to trust.

Fine and up to date for the device doesn't mean supported anymore by the app. If you pulled down an old version of the app, it will likely stop working at some point if/when the backend code changes enough.

thanks for the input. It's working now.
