Oh, "chess new year's resolution"! Ummm...I don't have one
New Year's Resolution
Above all: to spend the entire year as determined and dedicated to chess as I have been the last four months.

No true resolutions, per se, but my general goals are the same as last year, since I didn't get there. Study more and get my OTB performance up to at least 1600 USCF. I'm hoping to play in a few more tournaments this year too and run at least 4.

Hilarious!

I almost forgot:
Reach 50,000 member points
Become a Grandmaster
Beat Magnus Carlsen
Write a limerick to rival Tonydal
Think I'm being realistic

I cannot make any because years ago my New Year's resolution was to never make another New Year's resolution, and so far it has been one resolution I have been able to keep.

To write an essay on "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad".
To publicly proclaim that the "axis of evil" is the U.S., Israel, and England (Well, I guess I already did that).
So, have you started living in a sack yet?
That reminds me, I have to remember that you're a jackass, padman. I know it sounds easy, but sometimes I drink, and forget things

No doubt that comes in handy when you want to forget a New Year's resolution you regetted making.

Depressingly, I don't forget much, and of course, alcohol is no excuse. But it is padman we're talking about. Pretty easy to forget that thing

I think this will help me time-box better.

My chess new year's resolution is defeat a lot of kings:)
wow good resolution. i like it :)

My chess new year's resolutions:
To not move pieces around when my opponent excuses himself to use the bathroom.
To not force a draw from a losing position by fake sneezing and knocking all pieces off the chess board.
To not teach my beginner wife that my king is a special king that can warp to any square on the board.
To not try to psych out my opponent by saying, "are you really sure you want to move there?" when they are about to make a really good move.
Seriously, I want to teach my wife how to play (we had our first lesson a couple nights ago) and get her playing to a point where she can beat me. I also want to pick up another marble chess board in Progreso, Mexico, when we sail there next month. I bought a small one there a number of years ago, but would like a larger one. And I also resolve to find the time to play more games online and in real life.
Being a spreadsheet nerd, I've got myself a nice complicated checklist for 2011:
1) At least 15 minutes on the tactics trainer, once a day for 300 days.
2) At least 50 games in which I use a full hour of my time limit, all fully annotated afterwards in my chess journal.
3) At least 50 moves in which I spend at least five minutes considering my options within those slow games.
4) Master everything through the Class B section in the Silman Endgame book.
5) Play in at least 10 games worth of OTB, rated tournaments. The two big ones in my area should cover it, but I'm going to try to hit a few smaller ones as well.
I try not to focus on ratings, but who am I kidding, I'm a chess player and we love ratings:
1) 1700 ICC 45 45 pool (1546 right now)
2) 1200 USCF (1086P6 right now)
What's your chess new year's resolution?
