No lines appearing when I am watching a game.

I noticed that when I was watching one of my friends play chess, I saw there were no lines. I don't know what happened, but my friend did not see any lines for me either. Me and him both have a platinum membership, and subscribers that are not on our free trial. There is no option for me to turn on or off the lines. When the game ends, the lines appear again. It just does not work for live watching like it did before. Please help and thank you.

That was removed.

Thank you, but do you know any reason why it was removed?

It's really annoying that they removed this option rather than give the user the ability to turn it on and off themselves. I use it to learn and now this option has gone -- Oi!, Chess.com, bring it back!

My understanding is it's a fair play mechanism, so having it as an option would defeat that purpose.

But it was always hidden from the players, as is the status bar at the side and the comments. If it's been removed to stop an accomplice helping a player cheat, well they could use an engine on another computer. For that matter, so could the player themselves but chess.com would know (by the accuracy of the moves, presumably). So I still don't see why they've removed it after all this time.

As well as that, there are already other websites that give you the answer in the position. Examples: https://nextchessmove.com
