Notation for resignation

Newbie question here. Chess notation supports indicating check and mate. Why is there no symbol for resignation? When I look at database games, it takes me a while to figure out that the player must have resigned.

Thinking about this, is it because resignation is not actually a move, as such?

Thanks! Now I understand.

Seems like the answer got deleted. For future reference I believe it noted down as 0-1 if white resigned, and 1-0 if black resigned. But this could be true for either resigning as well as running out of time.

I found a similar answer on Wikipedia: Often there is no indication regarding how a player won or lost (other than checkmate, see above), so simply 1–0 or 0–1 may be written to show that one player resigned or lost due to time control or forfeit.

There is a symbol for loss on time.
