Oh chess, how elegant and wise A game of strategy, a game of lies With each move, a player's mind Is put to the test, a challenge to find
The board, a battlefield of black and white The pieces, soldiers ready to fight The queen, the most powerful of all The knight, who leaps and jumps to enthral
The rook, who guards the castle walls The bishop, who diagonally crawls The pawns, who march forward with pride All with a purpose, a plan to abide
Oh chess, a game that never grows old With centuries of stories, both new and told From grandmasters to amateurs alike All can enjoy, all can strike
A game of logic, a game of art A game that tests one's very heart For in chess, there is always a way To turn the tide, to seize the day
Oh chess, a marvel of the human mind A game that teaches, a game that's kind For in chess, one learns to think ahead To see the future, to plan instead
So let us play, let us learn In chess, there is always more to discern For in this game, there is always a chance To grow, to evolve, to enhance.
I think you did a wonderful job. I really liked the poem.
I did feel as if some of the rhymes were a little forced, like "a challenge to find," "jumps to enthrall," and "all can strike." I felt that they were a little awkward in their meanings and were only used to fit the rhyme.
Oh chess, how elegant and wise
A game of strategy, a game of lies
With each move, a player's mind
Is put to the test, a challenge to find
The board, a battlefield of black and white
The pieces, soldiers ready to fight
The queen, the most powerful of all
The knight, who leaps and jumps to enthral
The rook, who guards the castle walls
The bishop, who diagonally crawls
The pawns, who march forward with pride
All with a purpose, a plan to abide
Oh chess, a game that never grows old
With centuries of stories, both new and told
From grandmasters to amateurs alike
All can enjoy, all can strike
A game of logic, a game of art
A game that tests one's very heart
For in chess, there is always a way
To turn the tide, to seize the day
Oh chess, a marvel of the human mind
A game that teaches, a game that's kind
For in chess, one learns to think ahead
To see the future, to plan instead
So let us play, let us learn
In chess, there is always more to discern
For in this game, there is always a chance
To grow, to evolve, to enhance.
