I used to be rated 1000 stop playing for 5 years and now I'm back but I'm stuck between 700 to 800 rating. this is frustrating to  me because I know some openings and I'm good at mid to late games, and I have a decent understanding of tactics and strategies when I comes to common positions, but I find that in most games I keep falling for the same blunders. I just don't understand why I keep doing this. I really just want to get back to my old rating or 1000 and continue. also I'm amazed at how much my opponents at this level are able to see through most of my tricks I used when I was playing at a higher rating years ago. I feel like in most of my games my opponents are just better than me. can someone please explain this. and to end it all what's with everyone playing scholars mate opening at this level????

Millions of people joined while you were away causing the elo distribution to shift. Your 1000 rating adjusted for time away should be below 800. I recommend doing puzzles & analysing your games if you want to improve.

also levy (gothamchess on yt) recently made a video advocating for the scholars mate. Do not under estimate his influence
