Well what do you want us to do about it?

baddogno

Ever meet a really addicted gambler, the kind who'll bet on anything, just for the action?  They don't really care about winning or losing, just the thrill of betting.  Maybe that's the kind of internet chess player you are.

Scottrf

If you want to improve, start thinking.

We can't control your brain.

I am the same way.  Online chess hold very little interest for me.  I play to pass the time.  But put me in an OTB tournament game, and i love it.

do you have any idea why it happens i am second...in my case almost automatically i lose my interest ...

For me, you answered the question.  Lack of interest.  Online chess just doesnt interest me enough to put any kind of study into it.  I will play the occasional 3 day per move game, and force myself to at least do some sort of studying.  I think for me at least, its the lack of sitting acri3oss from an opponent.  I enjoy the OTB tournament experience.  Online...its sterile.

I am the same for the most part -- I check my games when I am in line somewhere and make a move not thinking the entire board out.  For me I should only check my games when I am sitting down and have to do so not when a notification comes in ... its my fault really but its not very often that I am sitting down at a computer in order to play chess

Internet chess just doesn't seem as serious as an OTB tournament.  Even the time controls suggest that the game is less serious (i.e., less time to really analyze the game).  At least for me, I never really take any of my games on chess.com very seriously and tend to move too quickly -- even in 3 day per move events.  In contrast, I will take the time to blunder check even the most obvious moves in a USCF tournament.

The analogy would be the difference between competing in an Olympic track event (or even a state high school track meet) versus racing against your little brother or sister who is 5 years younger.  Whereas, in the former, I am likely to train and prepare to make sure that I can hit my best times, if I'm just racing against a much slower sibling, I would not do any training and likely would run at half pace to make it more fun for my sibling.  I might even run backwards for part of the race.  That's how I treat internet chess games.

Youre very welcome!

Look at the big picture, its a game.

I'm a sluggish amateur, but I've found actually setting up a physical board in front of me really helps. Makes it seem more "serious" when it isn't on a screen (this only works for single live games, of course).
