I was just wondering if you resign from games often would it hurt you in any other way than loosing points?

Like not having access to certain groups or tournaments etc?

What are the things you shouldn't do if you want to keep your reputation here on chess.com clean?

Resigning is normal, actually NOT resigning from lost positions is the more annoying behaviour because it wastes time. The most annoying thing is people who just let their clock run out rather than resigning.

But to be honest, there is not really a "reputation" factor here. Some people make a big deal out of whether or not it is polite to type gg after a game but I don't care in the slightest... Just chill out and enjoy :D

Keeping your reputation clean - don't cheat, be polite, play your best. Resigning is the proper and expected thing to do if you are definitely losing. Now in blitz games when your opponent is close to running out of time, it is good to play on even in a lost position in hopes that in out-thinking you he oversteps his clock.

But never simply sit and run out your clock in a lost position, as gijsvs notes. It's not only rude, but recurrence of this behavior is punishable by the powers that be.

Actually, being polite is probably enough to be considered an outstanding person on chess.com Wink

If you're constantly resigning positions where you should be able to easily win, then you will get lots of accusations of being a sandbagger. Otherwise it won't affect your reputation.
