Hello chess.com,

First let me quickly say I'm quite a new member here, first-time poster, I'm really liking the site and I'm really enjoying playing chess again but I've got a few questions about Account sharing.

A couple days ago my Brother came to stay with me for a bit and instead of him DEMOLISHING me everytime we play I suggested we play together online as the Timed Game element is new to us because we never played with clocks before and it's a whole new dimension to the game for me - knowing you've got the advantage but your short on time and need to win quick and vice versa!

Anyways, now I'm on a bit of a winning streak and it feels a little unfair because my opponent is obviously now playing two people and my rating, which was about 1100 is now 1500 and my account is now winning tournaments!

I thought about opening a new account for my Brother but we're still going to play together on the same team so it's still unfair on our opponent.

Is there an option for a "Group Account"? Or some icon or special game option I can tick to keep things all nice and open?

I hope this doesn't break and kind of Terms & Conditions Chess.com has got because we're really enjoying our time together here...and I'm especially loving the feel of winning, ... and hopefully learning a little too

Any comments, opinions, links, advice welcomed

Thanks

corrijean

Sharing an account isn't allowed. As you pointed out, it leads to an inaccurate rating and therefore to unfair matchups.

You and your brother should each maintain separate accounts. You shouldn't play each other unless you are playing unrated games as long as you are located at the same IP address.

Yes, I would advise that if you're going to get outside assistance in rated games, you might want to not announce so in the forums.

Thanks for the quick reply corrijean!

I've just been looking at some of the "Group" stuff here but it's all like clubs I could join not an actual Game Type .

As much as I enjoyed winning that Tournament I can understand so I guess I kind of have to confess now to cheating right?...

Well, I've just checked my archive and so

I hereby apologise to AustRabbit, markolj, coffee246 and gantulga999 who thought they were playing Slo-Panda rated 1100ish you were in truth bested by my annoying Brother. (now others can share in that frustrating feeling I had on many a family holiday evening!)

Can I send them a link to this thread?

I think I will just give this account to my Brother and he can rank it up to wherever he can take it and I'll open a new account and grind away in noobie-land.

Is a "Group/Team" option/mode whatever, a thing Chess.com should have? I'm probably not the first person to joint/share play?

p.s in that Tournament isabela17ole didn't make a first move, even I could've won that so I officially claim that victory!

Urm yeah, must admit I'm one of those people that doesn't always read those pesky Rules, Instrutions, Manuel, Terms&Condition's blah blah blah...my bad. (Anyone see the South Park - Human Centipad episode? Always read those t&c's!)

But yes "Chess Doubles" sounds awesome fun because I'm crap but like winning so if I can be on Kasparov's team please we will be accepting all challengers, Bring it on!

For what it's worth I am sorry...*cough* please don't ban my account *cough*

Slo-Panda

Yes I totally agree with everything you are saying RoninReturns.

At the time I didn't really think about it at all but when I was telling a friend who I joined Chess.com with I felt like this was unfair which is why I started this thread without actually thinking what I'm stupidly confessing to.

There's nothing wrong with playing whatever game type you want but as long as your opponent is fully aware of all/any/every advantage or disadvantage they are at and are willing to accept before the game starts
