Open Vs. Closed

Just want to see which game type is preffered among you players out there along with your reasons why. I myself prefer Queen Pawn closed games. I Prefer things to be closed because I do pretty well with that play style, plus i find in alot of cases, many people dont like closed games. I also like things to be a bit more complicated as closed games generally are. Let The Discussion Begin!

Anybody else? I already got the ball rolling...or tried to.

BBostrom

Hmm that's not very nice...I just wanted some opinions on game types.

mitchellhan

I like closed games, more time for randomly shifting pieces :D

mitchellhan

Though I do need to work on my attacking so 1.e4!

BBostrom

Yeah, E4 is pretty popular, i used to love it...then i discovered d4. Been playing with it for a couple months now.

mitchellhan

with 1.d4 it's pretty hard to open the game

for some reason people( noobs) will play 1.d4 and push all their kingside pawns and i you castle your dead :P

and usually the c5- break isn't enought :(

BBostrom

Yeah, that is noobs though, I prefer to keep my game closed, Castle queenside, then throw kingside pawns. But it all depends on the situation.

mitchellhan

umm... where did that that other guy go? you know the guy calling us fags

whitetrash or something?

those moderators are fast!

BBostrom

Yeah, sad that it took that to get this topic a post, but his title for his forum post i corrected his spelling and everybody lol'd. but yeah back on topic... o_O

mitchellhan

they even took down his forum post

those moderators are Really Fast

BBostrom

Oh yeah they are. I got a warning on accident the other day, and it was within like 2 minutes.

mitchellhan

due to those doubled pawns i couldn't achieve e5 and i thought c5 wouldn't be enough so i got squashed cause i couldn't attack the center fast enough
so i guess another thing i can learn is don't castle too early
mitchellhan
haha sharp :P
please check my analysis and comment!

But D4 is the common move for a closed game. Do you mean E4?

BBostrom

Both Very good games, you did deal with those double pawns very well.

BBostrom

I hate gettin double pawns.

BBostrom

Ok, Queens gambit does lead to some closed games, not as many. i would call it more semi open. The declined line gets very closed.

BBostrom

Actually it is classified as a closed game.

BBostrom

Yeah no problem. just remember, Closed games = peices all locked in, bishops not very usefull. Open games = Bishops can move freely, worth more than knights in that scenario. Any opening with d4 is generally going to be closed, opposite for e4.
