Any thoughts on the effect of acid rain falling into paddy fields of rice?
our heart is with Japan

They need prayers AND money for relief.
With all the media hype over the problems with the nuclear power plant, it is easy to forget the utter devastation wrought by the massive earthquake and tsunami.
The mean-spirited might one day find themselves in a dire situation which may soften their hearts to suffering.
the kind-spirited might as well. that's how nature works. we're all at her mercy.

ilikeflags more and more

In Japan, folding a thousand paper cranes is said to grant a wish. A whole bunch of friends and I folded the full 1000 in school with the help of our Japanese teacher, and we're sending them to Japan along with our prayers as a symbol of sympathy and help.
(We also donated a whole lot to the Red Cross, of course.
Also, super props to the Touhou fan-forum shrinemaiden.org, for raising $3,299.26 and counting from its members! Go, everyone, go!)

We are all just part of the same...Japan needs our help now, and this sould be our focuss...everyone needs a helping hand at some point...even the once mighty.
...no matter how much wealth or arrogance you may have...pain and suffering will one day find you...hope you too have someone to help you...

I didn't wait for this thread to think of Japan. It is a chance that the Japanese are very Zen at this time of crisis. They are a role model and an example of steadfastness in case of emergency. Regardless of the past, they are conducting themselves in an admirable manner. My prayers have been with them, along with my contributions to the Red Cross.
You are absolutely correct... very "zen". They took the ultimate blindside x3, but although they are devisted emotionaly, physically in that part of their country their society has not eroded. There were stores that were not swept away that remained intact, but no looting. None. If it were it would have been reported on video... somewhere... by many. Instead you get a sense of quiet unbreakable Japanese determination and pride almost to a fault. They are going to rebuild... faster than any other other country could given the same scenerio.

haha, chess players seem to be a sinical bunch. constantly trying to prove there inteligence through a forum, pretty sad really

Cool pic of you on the bmx in mid flight...:)
Wow.
Thank you, pdela, for starting this thread. It's a shame there's been so much ugliness in the comments so far.
Japan needs our support. Our thoughts and prayers are a good start. Those who can donate money will find their money well-spent.
I totally agree!
