Our oldest chess game ever! - True Chess!

Happy, Monday, everyone! I wanted to take a look at our oldest game in chess that we humans seem to have recorded. It's between the poet and politician Francesco di Castellvi and the poet and politician Narciso Vinyoles. happy.pngIt can be found here:

Now of course we can recognize some simple blunders on the part of black here, but the point to relish is the directness of the attacks and the simplicity of the plan. Let's cast off the arrogance of our modernity and savor the antiquity of this game. I often emphasize with my students to maintain simplicity of mind when approaching plans, and I love showing them old games to prove that point. Obviously, plans must grow more sophisticated and complex, but only ever from a point of originally mastering the simplicity of aggression and attack. Also, these two players were probably busy ruling their country and didn't have so much time to splice up variations and blunder avoidance. Enjoy the history of this game and let me know your thoughts about it below in the comments!

Of course! I plan on posting some more old games and am even thinking about maybe doing a YouTube series of walking through them. They're such a blast.
