You can stop or limit your time playing chess if you really want to, even if you are addicted.

There are many ways to do this. Do some research on the Internet.

Read THE ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY by Craig Nakken to better under addiction.

Read THE POWER OF HABIT by Charles Duhigg to learn one strategy to treat an addiction you have.

Isn't just accepting it a part?  Having an addiction is OK...making it fit in the real world is tricky.  Some people need help with that.

how do you overcome chess addiction

i could be doing more constructive things with my time instead of an hour each day playing blitz chess.  i could be going to the gym instead.

what was Fischer's secret to overcome his chess addicition.  After the 1972 match he stopped playing chess altogether until 1992

Get married, and all your addictions are in big trouble.

Obviousluy you aren't married or you aren't married long enough.

I was married for a extremely long time, now my kids are grown up, and I have time for chess.

Pulpofeira

Agree. I virtually have time only for online games, and still she says I'm like crazy.

I'm sorry OP, but playing chess for an hour a day does not really qualify as an addiction.

From Wikipedia (and, of course any shrink you might ask): Addiction is a state defined by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences

You can get your workout in AND play chess. Time management.

is playing chess an addiction?

if so, that does mean playing chess is a form of gambling

because gambling is considered to be an addiction

I might be mistaken, but the term 'gambling' only applies when there's money (or any other "real" consequence) to you involved.

there is prize money and self-image on the line when you play in a chess tournament.  the fact that money is involved in a chess tournament then means that chess is gambling

Oh, and I thought we were strictly speaking about mindless Online chess, where only an imaginary rating is at stake. Then count me in, I'm addicted to this site, too.

i overcame it

i stopped playing for a couple days

it was hard for the first couple days.  i found something else more enjoyable to do with my girlfriend instead of spending that time playing chess

I am married, two kids and I am addicted to chess. I play 12 -16 hours a day. My eyes hurt. I had to get computer screen glasses. My life is at stake. My marriage is at stake. My job is at stake. They log sites visited at work and yesterday my boss noticed that I make 800k hits on chess link a month. I am struggling to finish my post-graduate studies. How do I overcome this evil addiction?

toiyabe

Start smoking crack.
