pain meds

awesome? what about the withdrawal symptoms? are you addicted to pain meds?
The quickest cure for withdrawal symptoms is to take pain meds.!
I got my wisdom teeth taken out!
Ouch.

I had all four cut out. And then the longest case of dry socket that my ortho surgeon had seen in his visibly long career. And then my sinuses got infected so bad that my face felt like I'd run into a brick wall.
So yeah, I've got some good things to say about meds.

Hardly a cure for withdrawls....If you ever get hooked on 'em you'll wish you never seen them!! Thats a fact!

how many months?

I had my wisdom teeth taken out recently (taking advantage of better dentistry in the colonies!) I had one dry socket and it was pretty unpleasant. Did yours actually respond to pain medication ? Mine didn't ! I had an unpleasant weekend where no analgaesics would do anything. On the Monday they stuffed it with some evil-smelling clove type thing and it made it better immediately!

I didn't say they were a cure for withdrawals... but they do stop your symptoms! Which is all people seem to care about as far as medication goes.

Months? lol. You're thinking about something else.

I was given only vicodin, which worked ok, they didn't try any of the other stuff. For a while I was able to go down to ibuprofen, that was until the sinus infection.
Edit: Fear and/or admire my quoting prowess, ye single-quoters.

If one needs pain meds everytime one plays chess, one should probably abandon the game.
Either that or one's liver or heart gives up first anyway.

I have chronic pain problems and take serious pain medication to deal with it. They have the reverse effect on me. By this, I mean, I become mentally sharp and play much better. It is physiological conditioning of the nervous system due to pain. You may find your ability to play better diminishes as your pain level drops down. However, take this into consideration: You don't want to get strung out on pain meds because the withdrawal will make you wish you were dead.

When I took vicodin, for an hour I would be extremely sharp and productive. Then I would feel like I'd been working the past 16 hours.

One of my degrees is in biochemistry and I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a scientist at one time. I have also had to take a fair amount of pain meds for medical problems, so I have direct experience. While it doesn't seem to make sense, perhaps by the med giving you a feeling of well-being, less anxiety, etc. you are less preoccupied with potential distractions, more vigilant about errors and getting less distracted. It's a balance of forces, negative and positive. I don't see any reason why it isn't at least possible to play better under those circumstances. Relaxation clears more working memory for the task at hand. At the same time, cognitively the med can dull you, but maybe in your case the former outweights the latter.
Why do i play a lot better on pain meds?
