People quitting games when someone is winning

The majority of people on here I am playing quit the game if I start to win, or offer me a "draw". I don't play for my rating, I play for enjoyment. Clearly if they can't play a half hour game to the end, and can only play if they are winning, they are very poor sports. I am shocked by the number. On lichess, they always play to the end. Thank God!

Play to the bitter end or don't..

Yeah, me and you are different.

In contrast, I will find it annoying when players do not resign in a badly losing position with zero counterplay. It technically wastes my time to start a new game just for my opponent to gain a slim chance of salvaging the game and reserve his rating points. However, I have to accept it as a legal means to ending the game, unlike those who stall for long (of whom I am likely to report).

At your level, games should be played towards the end. This is so that you can practise out actual checkmates in real games, and to try and defend one if you are on the receiving end.

This, however, becomes less true as players become experienced. You can see grandmaster games in official tournaments - most grandmasters resign before the actual checkmate comes.

If one decides to be petty. Thinking that their getting the best of me by stalling. I will wait the half hour. Heck, I’d wait the hour. The hour and a half and so on. They won’t resign? Fine. more material for me. They will stall? Fine. I pull out a snack and start munching. I’d even whip out my chat bot that I’m working on for a coding project for school while I’m at it. They aren’t gaining anything when they stall against me.

Well, that's what I'll do of course happy.png

I always check in at the last minute in case the opponent sneakily puts in one move in the hope that I would not notice it.

DefenderPug2

I would always frequently check the board instead of the last minute.

YEAH IT WORKS. I don’t get a ****** EOF error! Let’s go! I’m a little lazy on the chat bot input and output. But the stupid restraints says I’m not allowed to make random numbers generate or random replies generate after a specific input is sent.

He just saved you both some time, why do you complain?

What do you mean by that?

thats what I do too. 70% of my lossses are by resignation.   I probably shouldn't ever resign at my level.  But I just don't have a strong enough will to continue on when I know I should be destined to lose.    Chess is usually about seeing who blunders first.   Right now i'm headed for another 20 game losing streak which is common on chess.com lol.    I mean i'm forcing myself to play chess for the past 2 months because i wasted money on a dgt board and chess book.  But its really a horrible game lol.   Thank goodness I was at least able to get a refund on my subscription.

I see chess as more of the “for the long run”. I don’t think it’s who blunders first, because that person could still make a comeback. Also what is a dgt board?

well I'm just repeating what Nepo said after todays game in the world championship. Waiting for you to ask what that is too lmao...   Chess is about as sporting as counting cards.

What is your goal in this conversation? Or are you just naturally insolent.

you going to continue arguing with Nepo?  lol

Honestly I don’t really know who he or she is. And I’m not going to try to act like I do. What I was talking about was “chess is about as sporting as counting cards”

Why even respond if you know nothing about chess.  I should be asking you what your goal is lol.    What is hard to understand about my statement?   I'm saying chess is all about not making a blunder, finding the "correct" move.   All theory and lines played.  Its a game for people good at solving puzzles and with a great photographic memory lol.  I'm definitely not one of them.

But chess is much more than that. Yes, not making blunders and mistakes are great and all, but I think there’s more than just the least amount of mistakes made. There’s creation involved. Using what you have, and improvising. Make new strategies that the opponent won’t expect, and execute your plan well. And why say that I don’t know anything about chess?

I'm also saying that the matchups on this site are so bad,  that once you are quickly in a losing position you might as well assume your opponent is some sandbagging speedrunning alt and might as well quit and get it over with.  Why waste time off your life?

If your in a quickly losing position. You should try to assess what went wrong, and what happened that put you in that position. And even if they are speedrunners. You should try to learn from the situation. See what they do. And try experimenting with it on a computer bot. It’s not a waste of time if you learn something from it. Analyzing the game afterwards would help too.

And if it stresses you enough. And you don’t like to play chess, you can step away from it.

I know but I feel obligated for many reasons.   eventually.

For why do you feel obligated to play chess?
