Opening database in daily games?

I do not play daily that often, but from my limited otb experience the style of chess online is way different. Expect more closed/ gambit declined positions with very little creativity.

Hello. I have recently discovered people commonly use the opening database in daily games, and use it in order to attempt to get a position that is better for them (has a higher win rate). Do people use the master games, or do they look at player games of their elo? (like using the opening databases on openingtree or even lichess to narrow the elos down.)
This is important, as I am in a daily tournament and this could help in preparing for the tournament. For example, if opponents see a particular line is higher win rate, they will go down that one, I will face that more in the tournament, and if I dont know how to deal with that line, I will lose.
not necessarily. you and your opponent have the ability to deviate at any time.
don't put too much stock in the statistics of early positions. some of the counted wins and losses have nothing to do with the early positions being evaluated. a blunder in the middle game is going to count as a loss in the early position because it was arrived at through that position. but the blunder had nothing to do with say the opening.

Makes sense
