PGN editor for mac?

I've done some searching but nothing's come up. Does anyone know any good PGN editors for mac?

Thanks for your time.

Other than the one here? You can create or annotate any PGN using the analysis board or in the forums.

It's just a text file. Surely, Macs must be able to edit text files.

What is it you are trying to do?

VULPES_VULPES

Last time I tried to paste a manually written PGN file into the game editor, none of it picked up. So I need to find a different editor.

notmtwain

Here is a game created using the game editor (the chessboard icon) in just a few seconds. You can copy in a pgn from a game you played here. You can create one by starting with a blank board and adding in pieces. You can edit it as much as you please. You can get a copy to paste anywhere.

What more do you need?

/ Here is the actual pgn. You click on the icon next to the magnifying glass to get it.

[Date "????.??.??"]

[Result "*"]

[FEN "rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1"]

If you want to easily create or update PGN files on a Mac I suggest using ChessX.

http://chessx.sourceforge.net

If you just want a good Mac text editor try TextWrangler.

I wrote the PGN file myself outside the game editor. However, it refuses to be copied and pasted when I actually tried to put it into the game editor.

LiteDave

How about posting the PGN file here so we can inspect it?

I tried pasting a faulty PGN (i deliberately left off the last quotation mark) and it behaved as you described.  (However i am using MS windows.)  So that might be the problem.  If you post the PGN file here, i bet someone will quickly find the error if there is one.

The problem is with the quotation marks. They have to be plain ":s, not the pretty ones (“ and ”) you have there.

I'm pretty sure that's the font style.

chrka

Well, if you replace the quotation marks in the header you get this:

chrka

And if you're using TextEdit or some such to create your PGN-files, you can turn off the automatic substitution of quotation marks. I'm on a Swedish system so I won't paste a screenshot, but you can go into preferences and look for yourself.

VULPES_VULPES

It's unable to save as a pgn file (TextEdit)

LiteDave

Agree with chrka.  i changed the quotation marks and it then pasted okay.

Here's what i used:

If you want to use TextEdit you have to convert the document to pure text. Hit Shift-Command-T and you should be set. Then you save it as something.pgn.
