piece value - Rating difference question

How much  is 1 point value in a game equal in terms of rating? Just for example, I can beat Deep Fritz 14 when I play pawn up (means fritz's rook is absent at the start of the game position) = +1. Just an example to make you understand my question, ok?

Considering,

pawn = 1 pt

What is the rating strength of the Fritz when it is pawn down?

Would a pawn down cut ~ 100 points from its rating?

You may be asking why do I need this unnecessary information? I am trying to play with my students, so it would be useful for me to know this information so that I can play a rook down or pawn down, bishop down etc at the start to play from their level of rating.....at least to begin the game....

The Pawn-odds score between equal (computer) players is typically ~68%. And for close ratings, a 1% better score corresponds to ~7 Elo points. So 1 Pawn correspond to 7 x 18 ~ 125 Elo points.

Muller, Thanks for the response. So, a pawn difference = 125 points.

In that case, I assume a bishop/ knight difference = 400 points, a rook difference = ~ 750 points, a queen difference is ~ 1000 points?

This seems a logical assumption, but I have not tested it. The problem is that to translate very high win probabilities to a rating difference is critically dependent on the exact Elo model (i.e. how the far tails of the Elo curve look). So large Elo differences can only be meaningfully measured in steps. This is what rating lists do, though, we can reliably say that my rating is some 1000 points below that of Anand without me ever having played against Anand. (And when I had, even if I had done it 100 times, it would not be very helpful in determinining whether the difference was 1100 or 900.)

So the easiest way to test it is pick 2 computer programs from the CCRL rating list that are 1000 Elo apart (say 2000 and 3000, e.g. micro-Max and Stockfish), and then let them play a few dozen games against each other where the stronger one faces Queen odds, to see if that is balanced.
