Try playing related openings for Black. For example lately I've been playing Pirc if White moves e4 and King's Indian Defense if White moves d4. If you play white try King's Indian Attack. To learn these openings play over master games, using a program such as "Guess The Move" helps you to learn the openings very quickly. Also analyze your own games as much as possible using an engine.
