Playing with a handicap

I work at a Boys and Girls Club and I try to get the kids to like and play chess. That being said, I play against kids with a very wide range of skill and experience. I am not a very good chess player myself, but in a lot of the games I end up trying to go easy on the kids because I don't want to dishearten them from playing against me again, but doing this makes it harder for me to play at my fullest when I am playing against people I want to win against.
Recently I have started using a handicap and playing without a queen against many of the kids so that I can try harder, but I am wondering if there is any information out there about playing with a handicap so that I can learn to make the games more exciting?

Deciminate them until you're ~10 points ahead of them (depending on skill level).

Then swap sides.

I think you should play full strenght but moving backwards over and over in critical moments to analyze, even if the game remains unfinished. Let the kids slaughtering each other.

Dhexplorer almost has the right idea.  Play them full strength, but allow them to switch sides once at any time during the game.  You get to play your regular game and the kids get to evaluate positions and figure out when they're lost.  Some of the kids will refuse to do it at all and "go down swinging".  Others will get cheap wins by waiting until they're in such a totally losing position that you won't be able to turn it around.  It's all good since they're just there to learn.

Oh, you're right.  This is way too smart an idea to come from me. Laughing It's based on someone else's post that I just happened to remember.

Thank you all! That is a great idea. I will implement it Monday.
