playing with or against ?

 Hello

I want to know what members of chess com think when it comes to playing chess.

Do you think you "play with " someone a game of chess or do you "play against "   that someone, whoever that is ?

I  read posts here on the site  it is one of my favorite things to do here ( besides playing chess that is ) . Recently I have met here the "play against' expression.

As for me, I always play with  someone , not against someone and have fun no matter if I lose or win. Because this is why I play chess: TO HAVE FUN .

Playing "against" sounds like an aggressive way to approach the game. This is my subjective oppinion, not a criticism.

So what do chess com members think about this ?

I am looking forward to reading your answers.

Have a very good day everyone !!

ahh that's my ada.. :)) Btw I do think the same way like you do about this, it is the fun that matters and probably to learn some new interesting moves :P

Well, I use both.  When I play chess with a friend, I'm also playing against him.  I probably use 'with' more often.

When u play a game of chess u are playing against someone. Sounds like an aggressive way to approach the game? What? Chess is war!

 Actually, chess is a game.

Actually Chess is War

Well, the most diplomatic line is Chess for some is WAR for some it is FUN.  When you win a battle you are ecstatic and when you lose one you feel stressed but when it is fun you enjoy no matter what.

A game meant to represent war is still a game.

When people go to war it is not a game

I play with someone. Although I want to beat them.

I play against someone but that does not mean that you have to be agressive, rude or gloat.

Basic rule of chess is never to surrender; you never know if your opponent will make a mistake.

This is just what I think too.

WOW! This topic is a very WAR of opinions and a GAME of words. Struggle or play it. Play with or against me.

Just do it.

To play with someone has the implication that you are on the same side.  To play against someone implies you are on opposite sides.

Example: Soccer players play with the other players on their own team but against the players on the opposing team.

Your right Marshall Dillon (wouldn't want to disagree with a top gun). I will in future play against someone.

as for me...i play chess for having fun !so i choose :"play with some1"

if some1 here says that chess is war [as i saw in some comments here] i think that he doesnt understand what chess is really.

chess is a game which helps u "kil" your time , meet new people , and have fun!!

(i think Mygame saw the video of age of empires and says that :)

its an interesting video which shows 2 kings playing chess with real soldiers xD )

thats my opinion and i want to add that its a great topic!

ty emiab for posting it!
