On live chess, what is 15|5, 5|5 & 3|2. I see the choices for 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, etc but do not understand the other notations. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The second number is increment ie. That number of seconds added to your time after each of your moves. So 15/5 is 15 minutes for the whole game plus 5 seconds increment per move.

Yes my friend you are right....in 3/1...the 3 is the fixed minutes while the 1 is the 'bonus' added after each move...this is called the FISHER TIME system.....
