I don't know all of the math, but in general, it doesn't matter how you win (by checkmate, time, etc.). However, the difference between your opponent's rating and your rating does matter. Basically, the higher rated your opponent is, the more points you get. Sorry I can't give more detail than that.

If you win a game, do you get more points if you win by a checkmate? Also, if your opponent decides to let timer run out onstead of resigning, are the points you recieve for the win the same. One last question. By playing stronger players, are you given more points for a win? And if so, how does the system calculate the number points. In another words, using a hypotheical example, for every 50 points higher your oppenent is rated, would you get an extra point. So if you oppenent is 100 points higher, you would get two points. And how much is a win valued at? Normally I think I see plus 8, 9 or 10 points. On the flip side, if you win against an opponent with a lower rating, how are points calculated? Thanks in advance for taking time to answer question.
