What's the meaning of "smothered"? I mean I have looked up the translation but that doesn't seem to make too much sense.

I've got a really cool game... but the smothered mate only occurs in the notes as a variation that my opponent avoided (along with an epaulette mate at the same point in the game).

Does that count?

*answer delayed 6 months* A smothered mate is where a knight gives checkmate because the king is "smothered" in his own pieces and keeping him from moving out of it.
