Practice a random game

I am thinking to follow up the study of theory with practical drills on the chessboard, possibly vs. low-level AI, in order to focus on recognising and executing specific tactical themes. I mean, playing real games from a given position and not solving the usual tactics exercises.

Clearly I can start any game from scratch  vs. a chess engine, however I wish to jump directly to the middlegame and skip the first 10-12 moves to save time.

I tried tools generating random positions but most of the times these are un-playble so that I am thinking of real games.

Does anybody know if there’s any games database collection from which to pick a random game and continue playing from a given position, forcing the AI to a beginner skill, so that I can focus on executing tactical patterns without worrying too much about king protection and defense?

Doing tactics exercises is great of course but in that case you already know you necessarily have to look for a tactic and it’s much different than a real game where you have to recognise and/or prepare a tactic combination before playing it and that’s where I wish to improve.

Just braistorming.

You can do that on the Opening Explorer at...ahem...365chess dot com. You just click through to the starting position you want, then you can play against Stockfish at the level you choose. It's free.

I don't know any way to do that here.

You can use Explorer here to find any position, click the Analysis option and from that page Finish vs Computer
