Practice against computer.

I have shredder on my phone with the ability to adjust the computers rating anywhere between 900-2600

My question is what level should I set it at for practice? It rates me around 1400 but when I play against it around that level I usually win and don't seem to learn much if anything. However when I set it higher it crushes me and I don't seem to learn much from that either. I don't spend much time analyzing my games which is obviously one reason I don't seem to learn where to improve, I know it's my middle game that needs the most work though. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Of course, most people (including me) will say that you're better off playing people, since a computer, with the exception of tactical oversights, isn't able to tell you what you did wrong in the game.

However, for those times when you decide to play a computer anyway, I think you should strive to pick a level where you can win about one-third of the time (and lose two-thirds of the time). This will allow you to win enough games to keep you from getting discouraged, while still being able to learn from most of your games. Regarding the specific level, you'll have to find it through trial and error.

Yeah practicing against a computer is great if you're already talented.
