Problems restoring games from internal memory DGT Smartboard

I have a DGT Smartboard, to play games on it with someone otb (over the board), in a park or something. And later when I’m home to download the games to my windows 10 PC.

I connect the board to a DGT 3000 clock with the small jack cable.

And I connect the board to a power bank from MI.

It is a special power bank that has an option to not let it shut off when only very little power is consumed.

While I play games on the board, I can see that the board is powered by the power bank by the symbol of two arrows on the DGT 3000 clock, so this is not the problem.

I have bought the DGT Smartboard to record the games when I play games against someone in a park or something. Other functions of the DGT Smartboard works fine, like playing games with Fritz from Chessbase or playing games online on Lichess.org or chess.com

I have read all the manuals from DGT and have send many e-mails to DGT support.

But the problems persist.

One day it works to restore the games played, with Live Chess and the other day it doesn’t.

And I have no idea why.

There is also an option in Live Chess to remove the games. So next time you download games from the internal memory the older games that where removed are not in the list. This also doesn't work always and I think the problems with not being able to download the latest games are related.

I find this very frustrating and I wonder if there is something wrong with my Smartboard.

Are there other DGT board users that experience these problems? Maybe it is not a problem with my DGT Smartboard but with the DGT software LiveChess.

I have the same problem with the games persisting in the DGT Smart Board's memory. Clearing old games already downloaded from the Board is not possible. What is worse is old games showing up each time with the current date and their numbers vary. It is a total pain determining which games are new, and which old. The software has not been updated since July 2018 and I must assume DTG has either abandoned it or made placed it in legacy status.

I stumbled across a possible solution: I was unable to delete games from the Smart Board. Couple of things: Make sure you set your board to the start position before connecting via USB cable to your computer (macOS in my case).

I then created a Tournament and using one of the menu options added the Smart Board (you have to place the white king on e4 for the board to be detected). I then deleted the tournament. There was some fumbling around to get the board to show back, but I was able to restore it with disabling/enabling the serial port and scanning for the baord. Thereafter, thing appear to now work as expetced. Only the recently played games that I did not delete show, and I can delete onld games. It is important to always have the board at the start position before connecting to the PC and DGT Livechess. I hope that helps. All the best.

I had this happen once on a different app

Just saw this post. I have a DGT USB board that I bought in 2018. I occasionally have problems with the games not being recorded or partially recorded. I use an anker  external battery which I believe has a constant power plug.  I  use both LIveChess and RabbitQueen software because for some reason rabbit queen will pick up the games  when live chess would not and vice-versa. I have also found that sometimes if I play a number of games that live chess will not pick up the last game played.   If live chess did not pick up the game but rabbitqueen did then  I will  set up the pieces at home and play a quick game 4 move game connected to the battery and then try to reload the games with live chess(if rabbit queen picked up a partial game). Often the game then shows up in livechess. I have also found that if I play a game outside on a park table that is made up on a metal grid that the game will not be recorded. I think the solution for this is to place a thick rubber matt under the board to block the interferance from the metal table grid(although I have not tried this).  I have also seen that if my external battery is not fully charged then I seem to have a higher incidence of the game not being recorded but I have not confirmed this.  In some blitz games if one player makes an illegal move and no one catches it like the same side moving twice in a row or not getting out of check then it will mess up the recording of the game , although some times in livechess you can click on the ??? marks at the end and it will show you the moves and then you will have to recreate the rest of the game.  I have also had the problem of deleted games in livechess showing up later as well. I would suggest using both livechess and rabbitqueen as part of the downloading process.

The other  thing that I did was to replace the usb cord that came with the DGT board with a shorter cord. That seemed to help somewhat.  One thing to watch out for is making sure the usb cord is fully plugged into the board  when playing the game.

Thank you, Jack. My problem is different: the games I would like to delete having downloaded them already using DGT LiveChess would persist. The problem often may have been that I did not reset the board and indicated the end-result using the king-placement technique. One thing I found very useful is a USB cable with a LED that lights up when there is power. I also have connected a USB on-off switch. I turn the power off after indicating the game's result, reset the board to start position, and then turn the power back on one more time, even if I am not going to play another game. This uses less board memory (per DGT 500 move capacity). Otherwise, the board would record every change until all the chess pieces have returned to start position.
